Basic Index Tab Terminology
Index tabs are grouped into “Banks”. The number of tabs in the Bank is called the “Cut”. Four tabs per bank is called “Fourth cut”, five tabs per bank is called “Fifth cut”, etc.
The total number of tabs in a binder is called a “Set”. Sets can contain more than one Bank of tabs.
Index tabs are split into multiple Banks in order to prevent the Tab Extensions from being overly narrow when there is a large number of titles to cover.
Our standard layout is as follows:
Tabs Per Set
One Bank Third Cut
One Bank Fourth Cut
One Bank Fifth Cut
One Bank Sixth Cut
One Bank Third Cut + One Bank Fourth Cut
Two Banks Fourth Cut
One Bank Fourth Cut + One Bank Fifth Cut
Two Banks Fifth Cut
One Bank Fifth Cut + One Bank Sixth Cut
Two Banks Sixth Cut
Those standards are based on our years of experience in the binder and index tab business. We can also accommodate any other tab layout you may want.
In addition to printing on the Tab Extensions, we also offer Body Copy printing.
Our standard construction for black and white printed custom index tabs includes your logo printed in a single location on each tab sheet.
Our standard construction for full color printed custom index tabs includes full color Body Copy printing on each tab sheet, and each sheet can have different Body Copy.
As always, we are happy to help if you have questions or need any additional information.
